FOR IMMEDIELATE RELEASEYOUNG, GIFTED, & BLACK™ (YGB) ENTREPRENEURIAL AWARDS Organizes Global Outreach Campaign “Jamaicans for Jamaica” To Bring Awareness To The Continuing Recovery & Rebuilding Efforts Caused By Hurricane Beryl
New York, New York — (Tuesday, July 30, 2024) The Young, Gifted & Black™ (YGB) Entrepreneurial Awards, Inc. in New York City, Carl O. Gray, President-Chairman, a native of St. Thomas, Jamaica in collaboration with Shauna Fung Yee, CEO-Founder of Down 2 Earth Agency in Kingston, a native of Westmoreland, Jamaica have partnered with several organizations and individuals who represent “Jamaicans for Jamaica” (J.F.J). Mr. Gray has launched the Jamaicans for Jamaica campaign to galvanize our Jamaican & Caribbean communities to support all rebuilding efforts for J.A.M.A.I.C.A. This is a widespread campaign to support fundraising efforts currently in progress that provide necessary financial aid to the impacted areas caused by Hurricane Beryl. Mr. Gray has used his planned vacation to visit some of the impacted areas needing support and it’s evident that a lot more support is required. Mr. Gray & Ms. Fung Yee have met with several business owners and citizens, however, there are many more individuals wanting to assist but are not aware of organizations they should send support.”
The overall Mission of the J.F.J. is simple and straightforward: create a communication team whose main focus is to transmit information that brings awareness based on the most current needs assessment and clarifies the reputable organizations managing on the ground efforts for which monetary funding is required.
Mr. Gray & Ms. Fung Yee met with Jason Henzell, co-founder of the Breds - Treasure Beach Foundation, Jamilia Crooks-Brown, JP, Programmes Administrator, N.C.B. Foundation, Marsha Burrell-Rose, Development & Marketing Manager, Food for The Poor and Neville R. Ellis, Marketing & Communications Manager, Jamaica Stock Exchange, to get their direct approval and commitment regarding transparency of how funds & products are disbursed. In the table listed below, the J.F.J. Team has compiled key information from these organizations working on the ground in addition to several others in the diaspora that are trusted, verified and accredited Jamaican entities. These organizations are heavily working on the ground within impacted areas island wide by providing relief efforts to support victims and managing monetary donations along with perishable items. Jamaica has a surplus of perishable goods to distribute, however, infrastructure items such as screws, wood, zinc panels, generators, portable lights…etc are the true necessities requiring monetary funding to purchase.
Note: Organizations and individuals seeking to ship disaster relief items to Jamaica by air or sea are obligated to pay the duties on those items. The Jamaican government cannot provide a waiver on duty fees unless those items are being cleared through a reputable non-profit organization or church Shipments of items to Jamaica can be coordinated with the main point person for the Jamaican Consulate General Office, Christopher Benjamin, cro@congenjamaica-ny.org or cbenjamin@jamprocorp.com for more information.
“Jamaicans for Jamaica” will share to their business & personal networks these vetted, reputable and highly recommended organizations managing the collection & disbursements of monetary funds, basic supplies and infrastructure rebuilding efforts to areas in distress . This communication plan will also provide transparency through insightful data with the hopes that disbursements can be tracked to show the public how aid is allocated to support recovery & rebuilding efforts.
Mr. Gray states, “as a Jamaican, I feel it’s my responsibility to help mobilize our people in the Diaspora and citizens across the world to truly live up to the text written on our coat of arms, “Out Of Many One People.” There are several organizations volunteering and providing support, however, the key initiative is to provide financial support towards rebuilding efforts with a level of transparency to settle concerns on how support is managed based on raising of funds and donations of supplies.
The NCB Foundation is providing a “Dollar for Dollar” matching program with the launch of the NCB Building a Better Jamaica Fund in July 2024 to help those in our communities across Jamaica recover from the devastation of Hurricane Beryl. NCB Foundation has pledged the first JM$20M and with a goal to raise JM$300 million. For every donation made, NCB will match it up to JM$150M.
